St Botolph Church, Iken

St Botolph Church, Iken

The Church of St Botolph in the village of Iken.

Built on a bluff above the River Alde where Saxon St Botolph came ashore and established his monastery in 654AD, this church has one of the most beautiful locations in Suffolk

This pilgrimage church receives a constant stream of visitors especially over the summer months, many of whom make the walk from Snape Maltings.

The current thatched church houses the shaft of a 9th century stone cross.
