Stretching along the north bank of the River Thames, theĀ Palace of Westminster, commonly known as the Houses of Parliament, is one of the most recognisable buildings in the world.Ā
Home to the UK's House of Commons and House of Lords, it has been the centre of British political life for centuries.
The building seen today was largely rebuilt in the Gothic Revival style after a devastating fire in 1834. Its intricate stonework, soaring towers, and riverside setting make it one of London's architectural masterpieces.
On the right stands the famousĀ Elizabeth Tower, completed in 1859 and home to the Great Bell known worldwide asĀ Big Ben. The tower has become an enduring symbol of London and the United Kingdom.
