🌊 The Magwitch Trees, Tollesbury Fleet

A line of dead trees stretching out into the water—quiet, stark, and hard to ignore.

These trees died after the area was part of a managed retreat of the seawalls. What’s left is this striking scene where land and sea slowly reclaim each other.

You might recognise it too—this spot featured in the opening of the BBC’s Great Expectations (2011), where Abel Magwitch emerges from the marsh… which is how these became known as the “Magwitch trees”.
