This charming cobblestone street is part of Gamle Stavanger (Old Stavanger), one of the largest collections of preserved wooden houses in Northern Europe. Dating primarily from the 18th and 19th centuries, the area consists of more than 170 white-painted wooden homes that have been carefully maintained, preserving the city's historic character.
Walking through these narrow lanes feels like stepping back in time. Traditional architecture, flower-filled gardens, and historic street lamps create a peaceful atmosphere that contrasts with Stavanger's modern waterfront and vibrant city centre.
Originally home to sailors, craftsmen, and workers, many of these buildings are still privately owned and occupied today. Thanks to local preservation efforts, Gamle Stavanger remains one of Norway's most treasured cultural landmarks.
